iSchool Research Symposium: 'Keeping it LOCAL'
Libraries want to reach their whole community, but not all libraries know how to step outside their walls and implement effective outreach programming. Drs. Katie Campana and Michelle H. Martin, and Ph.D. Candidate J. Elizabeth Mills conducted a two-year, IMLS-funded study called Project LOCAL (Library Outreach as a Community Anchor in Learning) that explored how public libraries are going outside their walls and into their communities to serve families and children who experience significant barriers to accessing crucial in-library programs and services.
Data from 155 participants across 27 states, gathered from 4 focus groups, 35 interviews, and a nationwide survey, yielded 130 outreach programs that together represent a model of outreach development that looks at outreach from a holistic perspective.
Campana, Martin, Mills, and Kent State MLIS student Jacquie Kociubuk will share the findings and highlight 10 library profiles from a forthcoming white paper.
