iSchool Convocation
iSchool Convocation celebrates the 2022 class of graduating students receiving degrees in the Informatics, MLIS, MSIM, and Ph.D. programs. Opening remarks from Dean Anind Dey will be followed by the presentation of awards, a keynote address, and the presentation of graduates. Following the formal ceremony, there will be a reception that features refreshments and a chance for iSchool staff, faculty, students, and their guests to mingle.
Informatics students who earned their degree in Summer 2021, Autumn 2021, or Winter 2022; or have applied to graduate with a departmental advisor for Spring 2022 or Summer 2022 are eligible to participate.
MLIS, MSIM, and Ph.D. students who earned their degree in Summer 2021, Autumn 2021, or Winter 2022; or have submitted their master’s degree request (MLIS & MSIM) or scheduled their final exam (Ph.D.) with the Graduate School for Spring 2022; or have a reasonable expectation of graduating in Summer 2022 are eligible to participate.

Doors open at 11 a.m. There will be a reception with light refreshments immediately following the ceremony on the concourse of Hec Edmundson Pavilion.
The iSchool is following all public health guidance as specified for the UW Commencement ceremony. Photographs from this event will be used for promotion and marketing purposes.
2022 Convocation Speaker: Nancy Pearl
Best-selling author, librarian, and literary critic, Nancy Pearl is the creator of the internationally recognized community reading program which began in 1998 as “If All Seattle Read the Same Book.” Her awards include Librarian of the Year from Library Journal in 2011 and the National Book Foundation 2021 Literarian Award for Outstanding Service to the American Literary Community. She was the inspiration for the Archie McPhee “Librarian Action Figure.”
