Spencer G. Shaw Lecture: Patricia C. McKissack

In this installment of beloved professor emeritus Spencer G. Shaw's annual lecture series, award-winning author Patricia C. McKissack will present a lecture titled "On the Front Porch of My Mind: Stories and where the stories came from."

McKissack is the author of "The Dark-Thirty: Southern Tales of the Supernatural," which is a Newbery Honor Book and also received the Coretta Scott King Award. She frequently collaborates on books with her husband, Fredrick. Together, they have written more than 100 books for young readers, including picture books, beginning readers, information books and biographies. "A Long Hard Journey: The Story of the Pullman Porter," written by McKissack and her husband, was awarded both the Coretta Scott King Award and the Jane Addams Peace Award. Patricia McKissack’s picture book, "Mirandy and Brother Wind," was awarded a Caldecott Honor Medal.

A reception will be held in the Walker Ames Room following the lecture.
