Biography
Michelle Carter is an associate professor in the Carson College of Business at Washington State University, Pullman, WA. She also holds the courtesy appointment of affiliate associate professor in the Information School at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA. Michelle earned her PhD in Management (Information Systems) from Clemson University, SC. Michelle has taught MIS courses at undergraduate, masters, and doctoral levels, in traditional and online environments. Her research focuses on how people engage with an increasingly digital world. Michelle’s specific interests include IT’s involvement in identity and social change, factors that shape IT use behaviors, and information systems management. Michelle’s work has been accepted for publication in MIS Quarterly, ACM Transactions on Management Information Systems, the European Journal of Information Systems, the Journal of Information Technology, Information & Management, Communications of the AIS, and MISQ Executive, as well as several conference proceedings and book chapters. Michelle previously served as the President of the AIS Special Interest Group on Social Inclusion and as chair of the AIS standing committee on Diversity & Inclusion. In 2016, Michelle was recognized for her research and service contributions to the IS field, as a recipient of the AIS Early Career Award.
