Title: Understanding users of cross-media information: Information seeking needs, uses, and gratifications of multimedia materials
Abstract: Providing users access to various multimedia objects is one of the key roles of libraries and information experts especially in this time of digital libraries. Existing studies show that current information organization, retrieval, and recommendation systems do not fully meet the needs of multimedia information users. This study will investigate information seeking needs and motivations of cross-media information users, who search and consume across the narrative-heavy visual materials including comic books/graphic novels/manga, anime/animations, and video games. The objective of this study is to thoroughly understand multimedia information users and provide a robust profile of cross-media information features, which can be further implemented in organization, retrieval, and recommendation systems for better search experiences.
