One cause of PTSD is childhood trauma. Ten questions have been developed to measure ACES. High ACES scores are linked to negative mental and physical health which adversely affect work performance. Transforming Connections requested a system to analyze the ACES score for organizations using the ACES survey. Our system consists of distributing the survey through Survey Gizmo and analyzing the data with Tableau. The sponsor utilizes the Tableau dashboard to provide their client with a report consisting of: the company’s environment compared to the national average, areas for improvement and customized action for an improved work environment.
The City of Seattle Office of Economic Development (OED) works with local businesses to promote innovation, equity, and economic mobility. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted existing disparities between business ownership, and the greater need to distribute resources to People of Color (POC)/non-white business owners. Restaurants represent the culture of a society, and support a range of industries. They have also been one of the hardest industries impacted during the pandemic. To assist the City during this challenging time, we produced a data dashboard to analyze survey data collected, and mitigation recommendations for POC/non-white restaurant owners impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Based on users’ large-scale app installation data, we established an automated process for T-mobile to segment their users and create persona labels with machine learning. This process will improve mobile advertising services. We conducted social network analysis to cluster users, did topic modeling (LDA) for apps, extracted distinctive keywords in each community with linear sum assignment to build user personas The persona is able to show multi-dimension characteristics of mobile audiences such as popular apps, genres, topics within each community.
The Microsoft Azure End to End platform team is invested in identifying an efficient way to steer revenue growth prospects and to further improve user experience as well as increase the customer retention rate. Our project involved the data validation, data quality check, metric definitions and automated pipeline building. Our analysis serves as a foundation towards data-driven decision making for customer retention. The result can be utilized to monitor the user behavior and performance in real time to provide the better service and garner customer loyalty.
Behance is a social media platform owned by Adobe that allows artists to develop and share their artwork with other users. With more than 10 million users searching for inspiration, personalized recommendations play a pivotal role in the overall UX. The current recommendation algorithm at Behance requires substantial user activity to generate recommendations and surfaces artwork with higher likes more often. To make these recommendations more fine-tuned, we developed an algorithm using Cypher, that analyzes the activity of all related users & provides weight to project themes instead of likes. Our algorithm also reduced the recommendation generation time by 50%.
Designing the Future of Modern Work Spaces: Building a High-Performance Environment to Empower Human Collaboration
Despite 'Open-Plan' workspace having its stimulating collaboration and teamwork, it has many issues that trouble employees daily. Through the team’s research and analysis, we found out that noisy environments, lack of privacy, personalization, and health concerns are some of the major issues in an 'Open-Plan' workspace, and that workers of different job functions have different levels of dissatisfaction for 'Open-Plan' workspaces. Our design idea is a private/quiet space lookup system with real-time updates on the office spaces’ condition so that the workers can navigate within the office accurately based on their needs for privacy or quietness.
The Seattle Squeeze makes its transportation system strained. Although people are recommended to utilize Park and Ride facilities, they get frustrated when they do not know parking availability until they arrive. Our team EveREST addresses this information problem through providing real-time parking availability information. We gathered data from 686 users and designed a user-centered data pipeline. We collected real-time data through sensors, processed streaming data through cloud database, and visualized dynamic data through web application. Our solution not only helps users have equitable access to parking information, but also helps transit agencies make more effective decisions to solve Seattle traffic challenges.
The existing voting process has not kept up with technological changes and the emerging threats. The election procedure is highly decentralized since each state has its own devices and methods for registering votes. Currently, there is no simple, user-friendly, and efficient method for verifying elections that can be widely adopted with relative ease. Our election verifier enables independent public verification of the cast vote. ElectionGuard verifier is an open-source, lightweight, and platform-independent system that can be used by any voter to check if their votes were cast correctly, without giving away which candidate the voter voted for.
Climate Change is a clear and present danger to the world we live in today. A community-level collaboration movement is the need of the hour across the world that can bring about a significant change towards the behavior and attitude of people who are still skeptical about our impact on the planet. Our vision is to create sustainable and collaborative technologies for the environment that can help drive our mission for encouraging people to collect data(images) about our environment. To achieve this mission, we have developed an online platform to collaborate with citizen science communities around the world.
KCSO owns a record management system which generates large quantities of normalized data around law enforcement activities spanning 14 jurisdictions throughout King County. Our goal is to use this to identify trends and provide recommendations to KCSO. For example, weekends recorded nearly 25% less crime than weekdays. Crimes also peaked during afternoon hours, indicating a link between time of the day and crime rates. We used PowerBI to build dashboards to cover the KCSO region and highlight areas that needed extra patrolling. We hope that the insights we provide help King County in better resource allocation and making data-driven decisions.
