Postdoctoral Scholar - Software Sustainability
The University of Washington Information School invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar position. The postdoc will support a research grant funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) in coordination with the US Research Software Sustainability Institute (URSSI). The postdoc will work with URSSI to investigate the development and maintenance of research software in order to better understand what factors influence research software sustainability; describe current models of sustainability planning and suggest potential new models that could increase the likelihood of achieving long-term software sustainability; and develop new methods to evaluate research software sustainability.
The successful candidate will be able to either conduct quantitative research by gathering data from online sources, conducting statistical analysis, and developing explanatory models of research software sustainably; OR, has demonstrated expertise using mixed-methods including survey design and analysis, as well as interviews.
The position is located in the iSchool at the University of Washington under the supervision of Assistant Professor Nic Weber, but will collaborate broadly with other URSSI postdocs, staff, and researchers. The position can begin as early as January 2023, and offer an initial one-year term with the possibility for a second-year renewal.
Located in Seattle, the position also offers opportunities for engagement with scholars and industry leaders in the area. In addition to URSSI research, the postdoctoral scholar will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with affiliated iSchool faculty groups pursuing related research projects.

The base salary for this Postdoctoral Scholar position will be $5,458 – $6,250 per month ($65,500 – $75,000 per 12-month academic year), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
