All iSchool New Student Welcome and Fair

The all iSchool New Student Welcome and Fair provides new students with the opportunity to hear from Dean Harry Bruce and a number of other faculty and current students.  This event is designed to welcome new iSchool students from all four programs (MLIS, MSIM, PhD Information Science, and BS Informatics).  Immediately following the orientation, the iSchool Fair will feature UW and iSchool organizations and student resources. Faculty will be available to discuss their research areas, and student groups and other campus groups will host information tables.  Refreshments served at the Resource Fair.

iWelcome Week events

iWelcome Week is the iSchool's annual set of events to help orient all new iSchool students as well as welcome back the returning ones.  Events are posted on the main iWelcome Week Calendar.

You will sign up for a small group orientation when you receive your offer of admission.  These orientations will meet over the course of the summer, and will be by sign-up only.

Attendance at one small group orientation is mandatory for all incoming BS in Informatics students.

Exec MSIM Leadership Seminar

This workshop will offer an opportunity for Executive MSIM students to learn about critical challenges facing organizations as they engage in the implementation of systems designed to capture, store and share mission critical information. The workshop will focus on how information managers can enable and direct organizational efforts to build sustainable and effective systems, both from a policy and technology perspective. This event will provide an opportunity for Executive MSIM students to engage with their peers, interact with Northwest executives, and gain practical leadership experience in information management.


Attendance is mandatory for all incoming Exec MSIM students.


Residential MLIS

Online MLIS Orientation Week

Friday, September 24 thru Saturday, September 25, 2010
Required two-day orientation
  Sept 24/Friday = 8:30 am to 4:00 pm
  Sept 25/Saturday = 9:30 am to 12:30 pm

Each fall we host an orientation session specifically for new residential MLIS students to introduce some of the requirements, guidelines and other "nuts and bolts" of the MLIS program.  The 2010 orientation will run over a two day period: Friday morning will be the Residential MLIS Orientation, Friday afternoon the iSchool New Student Welcome and Fair, and Saturday morning will be a session on the MLIS Culminating Experience options as well as Directed Fieldwork. 

Attendance on both September 24 and 25 is required for all incoming Residential MLIS students.


 

Wednesday, September 22 thru Saturday, September 25, 2010
Required four-day orientation

Each fall the newly admitted Online MLIS students gather together in Seattle for a face-to-face orientation and series of workshops to acclimatize them to life as online student learners. More information on events taking place over this four-day timeframe will be posted online and provided to all new students.  After this week, Online students return home and start taking courses online.  After the Orientation Week, Online MLIS students return home to begin their courses online.

Attendance is mandatory all four days for all incoming Online MLIS students.
