The University of Washington is on a quarter system. The academic year consists of autumn, winter and spring quarters. Each quarter is approximately 11 weeks long. The optional summer quarter is approximately 9 weeks. Dates for each quarter are available at
www.washington.edu/students/reg/calendar.html.
Registration Timeframes:
The registration period typically begins mid-quarter (approximately, 7-10 weeks prior to the start of the next quarter). Refer to the UW Academic Calendar at
www.washington.edu/students/reg/calendar.html and look at the dates for Registration Periods 1, 2, 3, as well as relevant add/drop dates.

While students are expected to take courses in the program track in which they have entered (Day or Exec), we understand that some unique circumstances may require a flexible class schedule, where Day students may need to take Exec courses or vice versa. The program will consider requests, but in order to preserve balanced enrollment numbers and cohort experience, we have established a list of criteria below that we will use to evaluate requests for cross enrollment in IMT courses.
* Contingent on available space in section
* Requests will be considered only during Period 1 registration
* Course conflicts with internship/job
* Elective course conflicts with a core class
* Course poses undue hardship on students' travel
Contact Kathy Wong, katwong@uw.edu, for request instructions.
Add Codes:
Some courses require add codes, specifically
entry codes to register for IMT 590 (Internship credit:
Internship Forms) and
faculty codes for IMT 600 (Independent Study credit - Form:
MSIM Student Guide). You must first consult with the MSIM Academic Advisor, Kathy Wong,
katwong@uw.edu before you can register for these credits. Kath Gold, MSIM Program Assistant in the Student Services office (MGH 470), will dispurse the add code through email.
Please Note: For add codes to courses outside of the Information School, you must contact that instructor and specific department directly. To get credit for the course towards your MSIM degree, please complete the Out-of-School-Elective Form found in the
MSIM Student Guide.
