Academic Year and Registration Procedures

Registration and Add/Drop from UW Student Guide

Registration Procedures

Course Add Periods:
The UW offers priority registration for currently enrolled students who will be continuing the following quarter. The registration period typically begins mid-quarter (approximately, 7-10 weeks prior to the start of the next quarter). Students register for courses using MyUW at http://myuw.washington.edu/. Once you are logged in to MyUW, choose the “Registration” link under the Student Personal Services table. From here you may add and drop courses from your schedule. Courses at the University of Washington are designated by a 5-digit Schedule Line Number, commonly referred to as an “SLN number.” Use the SLN number assigned to the course you wish to add or drop for the designated quarter when using the MyUW registration system.

In order to determine what courses are offered each quarter, you can refer to the course schedule found on the iSchool website at http://ischool.uw.edu/courses/schedules.aspx. This page also includes projected course schedules for future quarters. Please note that the schedule of course offerings is tentative and subject to change.

Add Codes

Some courses require add codes (or entry codes and faculty codes). Add codes for internships and independent study courses are available by completing the appropriate request form available via the Informatics website and submitting it to OSAS. Add codes for the Informatics Capstone are assigned in the quarter preceding the Capstone, when the student’s project has been approved by the Capstone instructors. Most other add codes are requested by requesting them from the url listed in the course comments on the course time schedule. For add codes to non-iSchool courses, contact that instructor or department directly.

Washington State Residency

An iSchool student’s status as a resident or non-resident of the state of Washington determines the amount of tuition and fees required. Unless available information clearly indicates legal residency in the state of Washington, the UW assumes that a student is a non-resident.

Because rules and regulations governing residency change frequently, it is recommended that all residency questions be addressed directly to the UW Residence Classification Office (264 Schmitz Hall) at (206) 543-5932 or resquest@uw.edu.
