The AAUW Educational Foundation [http://www.aauw.org/7000/aboutef.html] One of the largest private sources of funding for graduate women in the world. Supports aspiring scholars around the globe, teachers and activists in local communities, women at critical stages of their careers, and those pursuing professions where women are underrepresented. The Foundation also makes several prestigious annual awards to recognize excellence in achievement. This website includes information on the AAUW’s various fellowships and grants as well as an application form.
AT&T Laboratories Fellowship Program [http://www.research.att.com/academic/alfp.html] Fellowships and grants are available to outstanding minority and women students who are pursuing Ph.D. studies in computer and communications-related fields. This website includes a description of the program, an application form, and instructions on how to apply.
Business and Professional Women's Organization Career Advancement Scholarship Program [http://www.bpwusa.org/content/BPWFoundation/Scholarships/scholarships_introtext.htm] Provides scholarship support of $500 to $1,000 to assist women who are 25 years of age or older, and are seeking the education necessary for entry or re-entry into the workforce, or advancement within a career field. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, and must demonstrate financial need. See the BPW web site for additional information on eligibility requirements, and application procedures. Scholarship applications must be postmarked on or before April 15 to be considered eligible.

The sponsor provides support for minorities to engage in graduate study leading to a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Doctor of Science (ScD) degree. Applicants must be members of the following minority groups: Alaskan Natives (Eskimo or Aleut); Black/African Americans; Mexican Americans/Chicanas/Chicanos; Native American Indians; Native Pacific Islanders (Polynesian/Micronesian); or Puerto Ricans. Applicants must be U.S. citizens. Fellowships are in the amount of $21,500 per year, for a period of support of three years. Application guidelines and forms are available at this website.

Scholarships of $10,000 for one year are available for talented African-Americans, Hispanic Americans, and Native Americans who will be in full-time accounting or information systems doctoral programs. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. The award is $10,000 for one year, renewable for up to five years. Up to twenty new scholarships are awarded each year. Application guidelines are available by sending a letter to the sponsor.
Special Libraries Association--Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) Scholarship [http://www.sla.org/content/memberservice/scholarship/sch-index/hpschol/index.cfm] Provides support for beginning graduate study leading to a Ph.D. from a recognized program in library science, information science, or related fields of study. Applicants must be Special Libraries Association members who are beginning doctoral candidates. One $1,000 scholarship is available.
Special Libraries Association--Plenum Scholarship [http://www.sla.org/content/memberservice/scholarship/sch-index/hpschol/index.cfm] Applicants must be members of the Special Libraries Association and have worked in a special library. Preference shall be given to those who display an aptitude for and interest in special library work, who show promise of accomplishment, and who are judged capable of making specific contributions to the library profession. Applicants must be doctoral candidates who have dissertation topic approval and are enrolled in a course of study by the time the award is given. Application Criteria: Applicants must submit evidence of high academic achievement, evidence of financial need and evidence of dissertation topic approval. Additional Information: The Plenum Scholarship will be granted for graduate study leading to a Ph.D. from a recognized program in library science, information science or related fields of study. One $1,000 Plenum scholarship is available each year.
A.R. Zipf Fellowship
The Council on Library and Information Resources awards an $8000 fellowship each year to a student who meets all of the following criteria:
- enrolled in graduate school,
- in the early stages of study,
- shows exceptional promise for leadership and technical achievement in information management, and
- is a citizen or permanent resident of the United States.
At the end of 2005, details for the 2006 fellowship will be available.
