Information in Everyday Life
How people experience information as part of their everyday lives is of core interest at the iSchool. From understanding the nature of informal information flow in social settings to the needs of specific populations, promoting digital inclusion and the quality of life for all through information, the iSchool community works creatively with partners world-wide to explore this area.

A conference and workshop is being organized to: articulate, in a publicly accessible way, the primary insight from the workshop on Mindful Work and Technology about the centrality of human connection; and to develop one or more research project proposals that can elaborate this insight as it relates to the design and use of the new technologies. The workshops will include at least four programs to focus dialogue.

Designing digital media—such as blogs, wikis, and listservs—to achieve some goals is difficult with existing tools. The process of meta-design of digital media in particular is poorly understood. This project proposes to help improve the creativity and productivity of knowledge workers by examining, as a specific example of meta-design, how curators at the Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture involve others in collecting, representing, organizing, exhibiting, and discussing objects, both physical and digital.
