Applying to the PhD Program
Prior to applying to the PhD Program, please review the following:
The Online Application Opens September 1
The PhD online application opens annually on September 1. Admission is for Autumn Quarter only. To be considered for admission, applicants must complete and submit the UW Graduate School online application by the indicated deadlines. We encourage prospective applicants from diverse backgrounds and professional experiences to apply.
PhD Program Deadline
- U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents: December 15
- International Applicants: November 1 All international applicants (non US citizens and non permanent residents whether living in the US or abroad) must submit their MYGrad application by this deadline. Application Checklist
- Prepare materials for online application
- Apply online
- Complete the UW Graduate School online application.
This application includes the personal statement, research statement, resume/cv and letters of recommendation.
- Pay the application fee ($65 USD).
- Request official test scores
- Request that official GRE and/or TOEFL scores be sent electronically from the Educational Testing Service (ETS) directly to the University of Washington using institution code 4854.
- Arrange transcript(s) transmittal
- Request that official transcripts from all relevant US* institutions be sent directly to the Information School. (* If you are submitting any foreign transcripts, you must additionally send an official copy to the UW Graduate School for evaluation – See “Required Additional Application Materials”)
- Check receipt status of other application materials online
