MSIM Graduation Information
Step 1
Submit your master's degree request online with the Graduate School. The request period commences on the first day of the quarter you intend to graduate and continues until the Sunday of the seventh week of the quarter you intend to graduate.
For example, if you plan on graduating in Spring Quarter 2010, you may submit your Master’s Degree Request between March 29-May 16, 2010. Please note: For spring 2010 graduates who wish to have their names included in the UW Commencement publications, they must submit their Master’s Degree Request online no later than April 30, 2010.
If you intend to graduate in Summer Quarter 2010, you may submit the Request week one through week six of Summer Quarter. You are eligible to participate in the
UW Commencement Ceremonies, BUT, your name will NOT appear in the 2010 Commencement publications. Instead, you will be listed in the 2011 publications. Registration for the Commencement Ceremonies takes place online, between May 3 – May 23, 2010.
If you do not file a timely Master's degree request (before the Sunday of the seventh week) you can pay a $250 Degree Late Fee and apply up until the Sunday of the ninth week of the quarter. For more detailed information see Degree Late Fee policies and procedures.
For example, if you want to graduate in Spring Quarter 2010, but do not file a Request by May 2, 2010, you may submit the Degree Late Fee and apply up until May 30, 2010.
For Summer Quarter, if you do not file a timely Master’s degree request (before the Sunday of the sixth week) you can pay a $250 Degree Late Fee and apply up until the Sunday of the seventh week of the quarter.
Other graduation and commencement information will be sent to your UW email account, so be sure to watch for deadlines and reminders.
Step 2
If you are completing your degree this spring, you will be required to submit a Program of Study form. The Catalyst link to the form will be sent out to all prospective 2010 graduates sometime in February for completion.
The Program of Study form must be filled out with a quarter-by-quarter list of all the courses you plan on using towards your Day or Executive MSIM degree requirements for graduation. You can use your transcript as a guide to fill this out. You MUST complete and submit this form in order for us to review your application and convey graduation decisions on your Master’s Degree Request. You can find the Day and Executive MSIM forms on the MSIM Student Guide under "Forms - Program of Study". The Program Advisor will then audit your form to make sure that you have completed all of the required coursework in order to graduate.
The Information School holds our own Convocation ceremony on an evening shortly before the UW Commencement (usually the Thursday before UW Commencement). This year, it will take place on June 10, 2010. Information regarding the iSchool Convocation will be mailed directly to our graduates, so please be certain that the School has your most current mailing address and/or email address, and that you are reading all of your email from the iMSIM listserv. We strongly encourage all MSIM graduates to participate in our convocation.
University of Washington Diploma.
You may expect to receive your official UW degree within three to four months after your MSIM degree has been granted. Should you need to provide validation of your MSIM degree before that time, your transcript (which may be ordered from the UW Registrar's office) should reflect your degree. Check with the
UW Transcripts Office to ascertain that your degree has been posted on your transcript before ordering a copy. In addition, the UW iSchool Student Services office can provide an official letter regarding your degree, upon your request.
Diplomas will be mailed to the address designated on the Master's Degree Request unless you requested to pick up your diploma in person at the Registrar's office. Please notify the Registrar's office immediately if your mailing address changes after you have submitted your request.
