Information Architecture Option

An option is an area of study recognized by the University of Washington.  On completion of their degree, students will see Bachelor of Science in Informatics as well as the designation "Information Architecture" on their UW transcript.

In Information Architecture (IA), students learn how to:

  • understand user needs and place users at the center of site design
  • organize and label information for improved navigation and search
  • build architectural frameworks to store and access information effectively
  • recognize and act on opportunities to increase business or social value through IA

This new discipline brings architecture and design to the increasingly complex digital landscape. IA is a crucial component in the development of successful websites, software, intranets, and online communities.

INFO 330 is the foundational course for the IA option, and all Informatics students are required to take it. To meet the requirements for this option, 16-20 additional credits in IA must be taken beyond the Informatics core courses, from the following choices:
