iSchool Research Symposium: Michelle Johnson-Jennings
"Indigenous Land-Based Healing"
Join us for our first iSchool Research Symposium of the 2021-22 academic year with Dr. Michelle Johnson-Jennings, a professor in the UW School of Social work.
Dr. Johnson-Jennings (Choctaw Nation) will provide a brief overview of her landbased healing research projects and utilized method including CBPR, survey, qualitative and mixed methods. In particular, she will highlight how building ethical community partnerships and engaging partners throughout can lead to better health outcomes. She will further propose how land-based healing can be a a culturally valid context for health interventions and research.
Dr. Johnson-Jennings serves as a University of Washington full professor and Director of the Division of Environmental Health and Land-based Healing at the Indigenous Wellness Research Institute. As a clinical health psychologist, her therapeutic expertise lies in working with Indigenous communities and decolonizing healing approaches. She has partnered and received large-scale funding with many international and national Indigenous nations, organizations and communities.
