The iSchool is marking its Centennial year with special receptions for alumni in conjunction with various conferences across the country. In Seattle, the celebration was launched at the iConference in February, 2011 and will end with Convocation in June, 2012.

iConference, February 8-11, 2011

A 90-person poster session, keynote from Susan Dumais, two industry panels, a Microsoft tour and more than 50 other sessions with 325 presenters were just a few of the highlights from this year’s iConference, a gathering of scholars and practitioners in the information field spanning the public, private and non-profit sectors in eight countries.  Read more... 

Washington Library Association Reception, April 7, 2011, Yakima, WA

iSchool alumni from around the state participated in the Centennial Reception held in conjunction with the WLA conference. Attendees included Bruce Ziegman (Fort Vancouver Regional Library District Director), Kiley Fullmer (Director of Ritzville Public Library), Justin Otto (EWU Library System), Brian Soneda (President-elect of WLA), and Mary Bucher Ross (WLA Board).

Oregon Library Association Reception, April 7, 2011, Salem, OR

Rob Everett, Oregon Library Association President, recognized the iSchool Centennial at the OLA Conference luncheon. He acknowledged the iSchool for its role in educating and supporting Oregon librarians and mentioned the strong partnership that Oregon state has with the University of Washington. "I am a UW Library School grad and I am pleased to represent the iSchool and celebrate this milestone with you all."

American Library Association Reception, June 26, 2011, New Orleans, LA

Nearly 100 iSchool alumni and friends turned out for the iSchool Centennial Alumni and Friends Reception at the ALA Conference held at Mother's Restaurant in New Orleans, LA on June 26. Alumni of all ages were in attendance to share stories from their time at the iSchool. Read more...

Association of American Law Libraries Reception, July 23, 2011, Philadelphia, PA

The gathering of 90 iSchool alumni from the law program was energizing and great fun, in spite of the heat. Tina Ching, MLLIS 2005, presented a Centennial poster about the history of the law librarianship program at UW. Funds were raised for the Borgeson Fund Endowment that supports scholarships in the law librarianship program. An annual prize of $1000 is awarded from this fund to help our students.

Centennial Academic Year Reception, September 23, 2011, UW Campus, Seattle, WA

Welcome address from Dean Harry Bruce to the 365 students who represent the iSchool Centennial Class of 2011. Students, faculty and staff mingled in Mary Gates Hall for a reception that included treats, information about student organizations and conversation starters.
