Until 1911, when the Department of Library Economy in the College of Arts & Sciences was established with a founding class of eight students, the nearest school that provided professional training for librarians was more than 2,000 miles away in Wisconsin.

Today, the aptly named Information School delivers an interdiciplinary education, focused on the ways people create, store, find, manipulate and share information. The Centennial class numbers 364 students and they may work for leading corporations, non-profits, governmental organizations or for themselves as entrepreneurs.

The iSchool produces top graduates in library and information science, information management, and Informatics. It conducts leading edge research in more than 50 countries exploring the design, use and impact of technology on the users of information. The stories on the timeline chronicle the history of the iSchool, but there’s more to tell. You are invited to share your stories which will be considered for inclusion on the iSchool timeline.
